Thermal Images - Special Projects
To give you an idea of the sorts of things which could be identified by thermal scanning, the following are a selection of images provided to various clients over time.
Glycol Encapsulated Stainless Steel Tank
Tank has an internal leak. Colder black spots identify possible leakage.
This is interesting for a number of reasons:
- The reflected heat from surrounding objects made the images difficult to interpret. Reflected infrared energy can confuse image interpretation.
- The emissivity of stainless steel played a part. We had to accommodate for this.
- We were looking for the coldest spots to find the Glycol leak. We usually seek the hot spots.

Location of Vermin
A stench filled the corridors of a leading hotel summer's peak season. We understood the premises became unlettable, losing turnover as a result of the smell. A hot spot was located within a drainage pipe within minutes. Suspect was a decomposing rodent.
Sodium Vapour Luminaire
Maintenance performed on remaining luminaires after a fire. We suspect the fire was caused as a result of a faulty condenser.
Furnace Joints
The heat escaping from the furnace joints is wasted and may affect product quality.
Industrial Heating Blanket
Industrial heating blanket being inspected for defects. As can be seen, one section is cold. The heating blanket is used in a laminating process and may cause delaminating of the panels it is used to heat prior to gluing.
Refractory
600 degree hole appearing in a refractory. The breakdown of the refractory could lead to a failure of the outer steel casing causing structural collapse.
Bag House Chambers
The bags working at the higher temperature are doing all the work and have a much shorter life due to uneven airflow.
